■Tour Introduction

Search for living creatures on frozen Lake Abashiri!
Lake Abashiri is located on the eastern side of Hokkaido—we crossed its calm waters by kayak before! Visiting in winter, we'll find the water's surface frozen into solid ice!
The peninsula that juts out of the icy lake is home to the world's largest white-tailed eagles, as well as Ezo red foxes. Many small fish also survive under the frozen lake surface.

On the virtual tour this time, we'll explore frozen Lake Abashiri on foot.
During the latter half of the journey, we'll eat some of the region's most famous freshly caught fish after they've been turned into tempura!
It's sure to be a unique and exciting experience!

For the tour, we'll have the staff from Connectrip, a travel guide company, take us through Lake Abashiri.
Also, we'll have Jordy on board as an English guide and navigator. She's an American who's been living in rural Hokkaido for the last eight years.

Relax and enjoy the tour!

■ What is Lake Abashiri?

Lake Abashiri was initially a part of a sea, and became a lake about 10,000 years ago due to changes in sea level and drifting sand.

This area is famous for aquaculture, which boasts the largest amount of clams and whitefish in Hokkaido.
